18th Century Woman of Venice

18th Century Woman of Venice

‘Women of Venice’ chorus character in ‘Candide’ by Leonard Bernstein.
Costume interpretation, fabric sourcing, cutting and making.
Designed by Johanna Muessig
Directed by Gareth Corke – AUCB Productions

The costume consists of a structured silk velvet jacket with elaborate detailing at the cuffs, and separate skirt with a slight train and box pleated hem. The character is a courtesan figure frequenting Venetian gambling halls; as such the costume is elegant and expensive – as well as somewhat showy.
