Today we popped upstairs at the Truman Brewery on Brick Lane (above where the Sunday UpMarket is held) to look around Feral, the AUCB Fine Art/Photography/Illustration show as part of the Free Range art grad shows in London.
It was interesting to see how the three quite distinct shows were transferred from their custom-built placements at uni – complete with carefully-considered mood lighting – to this huge industrial space – complete with concrete floors and a leak. In many ways the exhibition was quite overwhelming – desire the airy, spacious feel of the venue, there was an awful lot of work crammed in quite close together – but it is definitely really excellent for regional arts universities/schools to have the opportunity of exhibiting in London.
Sadly tomorrow(9th July) is the last day. But if you happen to be reading this and have a spare hour, I recommend dropping by. (The AUCB area is apparently distinguished from other colleges by the blue partition walls in the middle of the exhibition space.) Many of the students are hanging around in the space so don’t feel alarmed if they approach you and start chatting!
The poster for Illustration is a wolf. Just saying.
