Fifties skirt

img_1371

It was lovely to have my family down yesterday, who came to see the performance of Candide at uni, featuring my year’s costumes. As I had to go in early to dress the actors in their huge costumes, I toowore a suitably large skirt I made myself. Due to a fundamental error in mathematics (forgetting to divide a figure in half…), it’s a half-circle skirt, made from some very 1950s floral fabric that my mum got over 20 years ago. I feel as if I’m re-visiting prior clothes I have sewn, for a few years ago I made a fitted shift dress from the same fabric.

We went to the beach afterwards where it was sunny but still quite cold!

I wore a net petticoat underneath, to give it some body. It’s fairly long, covering the knee, but feels quite period in that respect!

  1. I love the skirt! Funny I happened upon your blog. I was asked the other day if I was interested in sewing costumes for a drama program. Blessings!
